Today you start your adventure with an (often evening) flight from your home airport to Mumbai, the vibrant capital of Maharashtra.
Upon arrival at Mumbai Airport, you will be met by an English-speaking driver who will take you to your boutique hotel in South Mumbai. This charming hotel offers an authentic and cozy atmosphere, ideal for relaxing after your journey.
In the late afternoon, join an English-speaking guide for a heritage walk through the historic Colaba district. Explore the city’s colonial history and architectural heritage. During this tour, you’ll discover iconic landmarks such as the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the Gateway of India, both masterpieces of colonial architecture. The route takes you past historic buildings with beautiful British architecture, bustling markets and charming streets that reflect Mumbai’s rich history.
You will be picked up from your hotel around 08:00 this morning to explore the essence of real Mumbai in a private car with driver and an English-speaking guide. First, you will visit Dhobhi Ghat, Asia’s largest open-air laundry plaza, where you will see the fascinating washing techniques of Mumbai’s laundries. Then, you will board a famous local train to Dharavi. Upon arrival, you will explore the commercial heart of the slum, where you will visit factories involved in plastic recycling, leather production, garment manufacturing and more. Get a direct insight into the lives of the workers and their daily routines.
Afterwards, you will head to the residential area to see how the Dharavi people live, including the oldest community known for making earthenware pots and clay items. This walking tour offers an in-depth insight into the resilience and creativity of the Dharavi people. Following your slum tour, you will enjoy a simple, hygienic vegetarian lunch with a local family, where you can chat with the family and deepen your understanding of life in Dharavi.

After breakfast, today you will embark on a full-day tour of Mumbai accompanied by an expert English-speaking guide. Throughout the day, he will share fascinating stories and interesting facts about the city’s history, culture and architecture. You will begin your tour at the world-famous Gateway of India, a majestic monument overlooking the Arabian Sea. Then, you will marvel at the magnificent Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, an iconic luxury hotel steeped in history.
You will also get a chance to experience the flavours and dishes of Mumbai’s local cuisine today. You will indulge in various culinary delights that reflect the city’s rich culinary tradition. After breakfast, visit the impressive Statue of Unity, located on the banks of the Narmada River. This gigantic monument, which is 182 meters high, is in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a key figure in the Indian independence movement. You take the elevator to the viewing platform at 153 meters high, from where you have a breathtaking view of the river and the surrounding nature reserve. Then you head to Vadodara where you arrive early afternoon and check in to your comfortable 4-star hotel.
You will visit the Laxmi Vilas Palace and Museum which is an impressive example of Indo-Saracenic architecture and served as the residence of the Gaekwad Maharajas. Built in 1890 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, it is one of the largest private residences in the world, with opulent halls and beautiful gardens. The adjoining museum houses a rich collection of artefacts, weapons, and historical artifacts that provide a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.
Next visit the Tambekar Wada, a three storied building which is a typical Maratha house and was once the residence of Bhau Tambekar. Inside the Wada are some of the most beautiful but dilapidated wall paintings from the 19th century.

In the morning, drive towards Jambughoda, stopping en route at the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This park is known for its impressive Indo-Saracensian architecture, including well-preserved mosques, palaces and forts dating back to the 15th century. Explore the ruins and enjoy the historical splendor and diversity of this ancient city, located at the foot of Pavagadh Hill.
Then you head to Jambughoda where you will arrive during the day.
You will spend the night in an attractive 3-star heritage hotel with swimming pool, an hour’s drive from Chhota Udepur.
This morning you will visit the Tribal Museum in Chhota Udepur. This museum has a valuable collection of tribal items and model huts of the Rathwas and Nayakas, which give a glimpse into their lifestyle and culture. Here you will learn more about the different tribes and their traditions.
Next, visit a Rathwa house to see the traditional Pithora paintings. These ritual artworks are painted on the main walls of houses to bring good luck, well-being and health. The paintings often do not feature nature motifs but symbolic figures such as horses, bulls, elephants and goats, which represent the vision of God.
You will also stop at the workshop of potters who make terracotta horses. Here you will have the opportunity to learn more about this craft.
In the late afternoon you will visit Singala, a sacred place of the Rathwa. This is an important location for the local community, and you will learn more about their religious practices and the significance of this place for the tribe.
After a day full of culture and discoveries you return to your accommodation. Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast visit Malaja a charming Rathwa village beautifully situated in a hilly landscape surrounded by palm trees and local fields. Meet one of the painter families who make the traditional Pithora paintings and visit another interesting museum that gives you an insight into the culture of the tribes of this region.
At the end of the day you will be taken back to your hotel for dinner.
After breakfast, prepare yourself for a day of colorful celebrations. Dress in old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, as Holi is known for its vibrant colors and powders.
Spend your morning in the nearby villages around Chhota Udepur, where traditional Holi celebrations are in full swing. Locals begin the festivities by lighting bonfires, a ritual that symbolizes the victory of good over evil. This is often preceded by a communal prayer service and offerings, as the community comes together in a spirit of togetherness.
After the morning ritual, it is time to join in the vibrant celebrations. The streets and squares are transformed into a sea of colors as locals and visitors sprinkle each other with bright powders (gulal) and water. The energy on the streets is infectious, with music and dance adding to the atmosphere. You will hear local tribal dances and songs, which are an important part of Holi celebrations in this region.
Explore the various stalls and food stands set up especially for Holi. Try traditional Holi dishes like gujiya (sweet fried dough balls) and thandai (a refreshing drink made with herbs and spices).

Early today you will visit the weekly cattle market of Chhota Udepur. Held every Saturday, this market attracts different tribes of Gujarat, such as the Rathwas, Bhils and Nayaks. The Rathwa tribe is particularly prominent in this area. Men wear traditional red turbans and the women are dressed in knee-length skirts, colourful blouses and silver jewellery. Vegetables, grains and other produce are traded at the market, and animals such as cows, chickens and goats change hands. This lively market offers a fascinating insight into the local economy and culture.

Early this morning you will drive to Kavant to attend the extraordinary Kavant Festival. It is a true celebration of emotional splendor, a ritual of transition, family relationships and a successful harvest, all brought together in one overwhelming display of color and vibrancy.
Kavant has been the gathering place for the Rathva community since time immemorial. It is a gathering of the Rathva community where they spontaneously relive the joy of existence and life. It is a sheer delight to watch the exuberance of Rathva men and women in their distinctive attires as they gradually gather to sing and dance, discuss marriages and relationships, exchange goods and services, all rising to a grandiose peak of gaiety and energy that almost draws you into the enchanting world of Rathva culture.
On the way to the village of Kavant, groups of tribals, adorned and excited, are often seen walking towards the festivities. They arrive via various modes of transport, with their signature accessories such as flashy sunglasses, cigarette lighters and radios. The women of each village wear dupattas and skirts of the same colour, while the men wear similar turbans and skirts to distinguish themselves from other subgroups. Both men and women are adorned with community-specific silver jewellery that is intricately designed and a feast for the eyes.
At the end of the day you return to the hotel for your dinner.

In the late afternoon or evening, you can visit Manek Chowk. This lively square in the city centre functions as a vegetable market in the morning and a jewellery market in the afternoon, the second largest in India, with an annual turnover of around Rs 3 million. Manek Chowk is especially famous for its food stalls that pop up around 20.00pm, where you can sample all sorts of local street food and delicacies.
Today you will explore the old part of Ahmedabad during a fascinating heritage walk through the UNESCO World Heritage city. You will walk through the colorful and narrow streets, where the guide will introduce you to impressive historical buildings.
After this, visit the Siddi Sayed Mosque, famous for its beautiful carvings and unique architecture. Then explore the Jumma Masjid, located in the heart of the old city, one of the largest mosques in India and a masterpiece of Mughal architecture.
After the walk, head to Sabarmati Ashram, where the museum takes you through the historical era of India’s freedom struggle. The light and sound show at the ashram offers an in-depth insight into the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his influence on the independence movement.
In the afternoon, visit the Adelaj Stepwell, one of the most beautiful stepwells in India. This well, over 500 years old, is an architectural marvel, beautifully decorated with detailed sculptures spread over five levels.
After breakfast, visit the Calico Museum of Textiles, one of the most prestigious textile museums in India. Housed in a beautiful old haveli (mansion), the museum offers a fascinating overview of India’s rich textile tradition. It displays an impressive collection of hand-woven fabrics, including beautiful silk saris, antique quilts, kalmkaris (textiles with traditional Indian painting techniques) and old carpets.
In the afternoon, visit the Adelaj Stepwell, one of the most beautiful stepwells in India. This well, over 500 years old, is an architectural marvel, beautifully decorated with detailed sculptures spread over five levels.
Today after breakfast you will drive to Santrampur via a detour as this is the day Rathwa Holi is celebrated in the region around Chhota Udepur. This phenomenon usually occurs on the fifth day after Holi and is part of the local traditions and celebrations of the tribal communities in the region. This event marks the end of the Holi festivities and has a unique way of celebrating that is both culturally significant and visually impressive.
During this celebration, tribal groups often block the roads in their region. This is not a violent act, but a ceremonial ritual where the road is blocked to attract the attention of passers-by. The blockade serves as a means to celebrate the festivities and the community, and it is also a way for the locals to show their cultural identity and solidarity. During this period, the Rathwa tribal people organize colorful and lively festivities. They dress up in traditional clothes and perform dances and songs. They often ask passers-by for a contribution or donation to be allowed to drive through.

In the morning, after breakfast, you will head to Zainabad, located in the vicinity of the little Rann of Kutch. This salt marsh, which is part of the larger Rann of Kutch, is known as the last refuge for the Indian wild ass (Khur). The area has been declared as the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary, where you can see these wild asses in their natural environment, often galloping in small herds.
You will arrive in Zainabad early evening at your lodge, which is built in authentic style. Here you will enjoy dinner, while you can relax and let the experiences of the day sink in. The lodge offers a unique experience in the heart of nature.
Early this morning you will go on safari in the Little Rann of Kutch, The area is known for its wild asses (Khur), which you can often spot during your early morning safari. In addition, the area is home to various unique mammals, such as the Indian Wolf, the Desert Fox and the Nilga and many bird species.
After breakfast and lunch at the lodge, you will go on safari again at the end of the afternoon.

Today you will have a fascinating day visiting the Banjara and Rabari villages in the Zainabad region of the Little Rann of Kutch. This region is known for its unique cultural diversity and beautiful landscapes.
After breakfast, visit a Banjara village. The Banjaras are one of the largest settled tribal communities in Gujarat. The villages are picturesque and exude a traditional charm. You will see the Banjaras proudly displaying their colorful, handmade textiles and jewelry. As you walk around their villages, you will get a chance to admire their artisanal skills. The locals will be happy to show you their traditional dances and music, which are an important part of their culture.
After lunch, proceed to the Rabari tribes, who are famous for their nomadic lifestyle. Unlike the settled Banjaras, the Rabaris are constantly moving with their herds throughout the region. You will visit their temporary settlements, where you will have the opportunity to explore the unique structure of their tents, the “bhungas”. These tents are decorated with hand-woven carpets and decorations that reflect their nomadic life. Discover how the Rabaris conduct their daily life and rituals in the rugged environment of the Little Rann of Kutch.

After breakfast, you will depart for Patan. On the way, you will first visit the Sun Temple in Modhera, located on the banks of the Pushpavati River. This beautiful temple is known for its impressive architecture and the lively ceremonies that take place. Here you will see women of all ages, dressed in bright yellow, orange and red clothes, representing and honoring the sun.
You continue your route to Patan, where you will explore the impressive Rani Ki Vav stepwell from the 11th century. In Patan you will also visit one of the families who are still master weavers of the colorful Potala silk and custodians of the ancient art of double ikat. This visit offers you a unique opportunity to learn more about these traditional weaving techniques and the art of silk weaving.

After breakfast, en route to Poshina, drive first to Sidhpur, a charming town known for its beautiful historical buildings and traditional architecture. In the afternoon you will drive to Poshina in about 2,5 hours. Upon arrival in Poshina you will be warmly welcomed by the Maharaja family who run the heritage hotel. You will visit the terracotta temple, dedicated to a local village deity, and admire the thousands of terracotta horses carefully crafted by the local community. After lunch, visit the sacred village of Ambaji, where you can see the Garcia girls carrying wood from the jungle to sell at the market. During your visit, you will also see some friendly tribal women and girls selling local fruits and vegetables.
Next, you will visit the impressive Ambaji Temple, a holy place dedicated to the Goddess of Power. This temple is famous for its extraordinary gold-covered shrine that contains a whopping 400 kg of gold. The dazzling gold on the temple emphasizes the immense devotion and wealth of the worshippers.
Before returning to your hotel, visit the Ambaji Jain Temple which is a holy place of great religious significance to the Jain community. This impressive temple, dedicated to the goddess Ambaji, is known for its beautiful architecture and richly decorated interior.

After breakfast drive to Gunbhakari, situated at the confluence of the Sabarmati, Akul and Vyakul rivers where the Chitra-Vichitra Mela takes place. This is the largest tribal fair in the region.
The day begins with a magical arrival at the fairgrounds, where the temple overlooks the rivers and the surroundings are shrouded in a magical atmosphere. The Garasia, Gamar, Khair and Pargi tribes come from far and wide to the Mela, using every conceivable means of transport to reach their destination. The tribal groups, including the Bhils, appear in their traditional, colourful costumes. The men often wear a blue shirt, dhoti and a bright red or saffron turban, while the women adorn themselves in beautifully decorated ghaghras (embroidered skirts) that can be up to 18 metres in circumference. They are covered in heavy silver jewellery and use liquid kumkum to give their cheeks and lips a radiant red colour and kajal to accentuate their eyes.
Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere this day, each group brings its own drum, which creates a constant and exciting beat that permeates the entire area. The women sing traditional folk songs and the dances are performed with enthusiasm.
At the end of the day you return to the hotel where you can enjoy a drink by the pool. Dinner at the hotel.
